Automated Application Blueprinting

CloudVelox Automates Application Blueprinting of your data center applications, prior to Migrating to the cloud.

Recreate existing networks into the public cloud
Automated identification of the application environment in the data center.

The compute characteristics, storage volumes and file systems, network parameters, sub-networks and IP addresses as well as security rules and policies are automatically identified.

Automated matching of data center infrastructure environment to cloud infrastructure services
Automated matching of data center infrastructure environment to cloud infrastructure services.

CloudVelox software automates the selection of optimal compute, storage cloud services. It also automates the mapping of data center network parameters to the cloud network and the security rules to security groups in the cloud.

Automated and real-time calculation of cloud costs prior to migrating the appllication
Automated and real-time calculation of cloud costs prior to migrating the application.

CloudVelox shows costs to run your workload in the cloud and provides flexibility to change the selection for addditional performance or cost savings.

Automated provisioning, orchestration and replication

Automated Application Blueprinting

For Cloud Migration, Automation is the Key Difference between Success and Failure

Here's why:

Choices have been made specific for server, storage, networking, and security parameters for your data center applications. This constitutes your application environment, which in turn affects performance, scalability and control.  Moving to the cloud requires you to make choices of cloud services to match your data center application environment.  Making sub-optimal choices for cloud compute, storage, network and security can result in:
  • Poor application performance
  • Unexpected cloud costs
  • Inoperability due to networking issues
  • Systems vulnerable to breaches

Using manual VM replication or image conversion tools puts the burden on you: to select each server or VM, convert to the cloud format image and then manually make the correct choices for compute, storage, network and security PER SERVER.  It’s not only time consuming, but also the failure rate is high.

With our unique Application Blueprint-based approach, moving to the cloud is simple, fast and secure. Whether migrating a handful or thousands of apps, automated Application Blueprinting reduces the risk of cloud migration and accelerates time to value.

How We Do It:

Workload characteristics are dynamically blueprinted in the source environment and recomposed in the destination environment with matching cloud services. Application Blueprinting ensures that the workload can run in the cloud with confidence.

Automated Application Blueprinting

Caveat:  Some vendors are also using the term "Application Blueprinting".   It is important to pay attention to the details since our approach is very different:

Very Different Approaches From Others:

  1. The first approach is what they call “configuring your blueprint”.  This is "sugar coating" the manual server replication and image conversion and is the same as doing a manual migration.

    There is no automation involved.

  2. Another approach refers to a blueprint based on  "application templates available on the target cloud".  This is suitable for “greenfield” applications that are developed for the cloud but they are not applicable to “brownfield” applications or re-hosting of existing apps in the cloud.  In many cases, your existing application maybe running a specific version of OS with specific patches which may not be available as a template in the cloud.

CloudVelox’s Application Blueprint clones your existing OS/patch to make it run in the cloud, thereby reducing the risk of the application launching and running in the cloud.
